Also, I think someone beat me to it. Julie from Forty Weeks rocked the analysis here: On Missing the Mark.
Summarize it to say, my opinion is:
before Nestle jumps full into social media and community building around their products, they better address their international and local issues. Clean their house. Address the abuse of people and the environment. Get in shape. Ask for forgiveness.
No major corporation who runs for profit (or tries to) is going to be perfect, but Nestle can do better.
Some other bloggers summarize the issues well:
- Annie at PhDinParenting: An open letter to the attendees of the Nestle Family blogger event
- Amy at Crunchy Domestic Goddess: Did we learn anything from the Nestle Family Twitter Storm?
- Baby Milk Action's Boycott Nestle blog: Nestle family Twitters
- Alan at A&G: #nestlefamily Debacle Proves Authenticity is Paramount, including “Being Prepared” for “What Ifs”
